When you make time for family, life is much more rewarding! What’s the point in working hard throughout life, if
there is no one or family to enjoy your successes and accomplishments? My wife and I are always planning our daily
lives around both of our families and grandkids. Over the last 30 years, we’ve made it a point to attend the
annual Family Reunion events locally and out-of-town. Also, while living here at Victoria Falls, we have attended
many family-oriented events coordinated by the Lifestyle Director and staff. Recently, we went to the
“Grandparents Day” event with our five grandkids here at Victoria Falls. They loved the activities and the time
spent with us and wanted to know when the next one was! Whatever the occasion, spending quality time with family
makes life a blessing to behold!
In today’s fast paced world, it’s so easy to lose sight of the small things that should really matter in life. Do
you find yourself wishing you could spend more time with your family? If so, try these suggestions to make the
most of family time:
Remember the small things. Take a moment each day to send a text, email or phone call to let your family
members know that you appreciate them and their presence in your life.
Make a date with a family member. Sharing one-on-one time with a family member is very important. This
intimate time affords the chance to talk openly to one another about issues that may be occurring in your lives.
Schedule a date to spend with them and commit to it as you would any important business meeting–and look for
inexpensive and fun activities to enjoy with all family members as a group.
Gather around the table. Enjoy meals with your family by taking time to share highlights from your day or
week. Maybe a family member just returned from a vacation and has a lot to share about their journey. Turn off
the TV and avoid other distractions to stay focused and involved in each other’s conversation.
Schedule family meetings. Use this time to discuss any concerns and make family decisions. Select a low-
stress time and try to keep it short and sweet, but give everyone a chance to speak.
Remember, you only live once so embrace it and make your life worth living to the fulles
